The DNC Isn't Rearranging Deck Chairs on the Titanic

It's making sure we have the correct gender mix to rearrange the deck chairs

The recent DNC meeting illustrated oh so much¹ that’s wrong with our Democratic party. MSN has a lot of it here.²

"Our elected officers are currently two male and two female. In order to be gender balanced, we must, we must elect one male, one female, and one person of any gender,” — Jamie Harrison

And he said all this seriously with a straight face.

AYFKM? We just got our asses handed to us by Donald Trump and our concern is the gender balance of the DNC officers? Our concern should be who can get us turned around. If that’s a bunch of white men - great. If it’s a bunch of African-American women - great.³

If we’re the party of equality, why the fuck do we need to have quotas? Is everyone worried we’re actually a bunch of misogynistic racist scum? I can understand doing this when each group first became involved. But today?

Think of the giant message it would send to the country if the DNC announced that going forward - there are no race or gender requirements for any election. That every election will be for the top vote getter. And every party member can run for any office.

It’s a Start

And doing that is no where near enough. It’s a start. We Democrats need to totally rethink significant parts of our philosophy. Because the majority of the country does not want what we’re selling.

We need to be the party of governing effectively. Right now we’re the party of “we give every interest group what it wants” which means we don’t accomplish squat.

In the meantime, I’ll remain a Democrat. But I’m not donating squat to this collection of clowns.⁴

1. Not everything - there’s lots more that we need to fix.

2. Fox, while often full of shit, gleefully tore in to the stupidity on display.

3. My money is on predominantly African-American women - they’re the lifeblood of our party.

4. I will donate to candidates who I think are addressing these issues.
