A lot of the discussion was around HB25-1040, to add Nuclear to the list of supported energy sources for the State of Colorado. He agrees with Will Toor that the legislation has minimal legal impact but does have a strong message to industry. Senator Liston says that in talking to nuclear power producers, they at present steer clear of Colorado because of the message our existing legislation sends.
The rest of the conversation was about energy in general. Something I appreciate with almost every interview I have had with state legislators, is we get people that are very knowledgeable on the subjects they focus on. For a “citizen legislature” we are served with a lot of expertise. (Granted I talk to a subset of the legislators.)
Also, on a personal note, this is my first interview of an elected in 15 years. My last interview was with Senator Udall back in 2010 I believe. Video is a lot less work.
