Weekend Reading
A SciFi / Nerd treat
For the last 20+ years I’ve read a couple of fiction books a year. Instead I dove into history. History is a lot more original than most fiction. But I do read the occasional fiction.
Someone on the cruise we met suggested 1632 by Eric Flint. It’s an alternate history where in 2010 a West Virginia mining town is dropped into the middle of Germany in 1631. That’s the midst of the 30 year war.
This is an amazing series. I’ve been devouring it book after book. It’s got politics, war, economics, technology, love, & more. And I won’t say it’s accurate because who can say for sure. But it’s reasonable both for what is going on at that time, and what the people in the town, led by the UMWA members, can accomplish.
Easily some of the best Sci-Fi I’ve ever read. The Man in the High Castle was good. This is much better.
And video
Don McMillan is by far the world’s best engineering comedian. How nerdy? He uses PowerPoint in his act. Not occasionally, it’s up there the whole time.
Every engineer, programmer, etc. I’ve suggested it to loves him. Shirley who was CEO of Windward and so spent 10+ years working with programmers finds it funny. If you’re not either of those you’re mileage will vary…

Love that book series, and it doesn't get as much attention as it should.
