Right now we face uncertainty, who will be the Democratic candidate for President. The final decision is for President Biden to make. But every day at present is a combination of pressure from Democratic leaders, in both directions, and holding our breath as the President does another public event.
There is no obvious choice here. Very successful Democratic politicians (I give less credence to the talking heads) are on both sides of this issue. Political calculation plays a part, for some politicians a small part, for some a large part. But I do think a large part of it, for people on both sides of the question, is what gives us the best chance to beat Donald Trump.
My big worry is that the decision is going to be based on - does President Biden have another disastrous event before the convention. And if he does not, can he overcome the widespread assumption that he is now too frail to be an effective President.
My question to the leaders of the Democratic party is this - assuming no more disasters, can the President Biden of the last two weeks beat Donald Trump? And if the answer is no, then what can you do?
